Eggs have a few different catagories. Here at New Haven Poultry Farm, we offer Free Range and Enriched Caged eggs. What is the difference between Enriched Caged and Free Range I hear you ask? You’re in the right place to find out…

Essentially eggs from Enriched Cage hens are eggs from chickens kept in cages, that are larger, more spacious, than that of battery cages. This gives the chickens a better quality of life, allowing them to express more of their natural behaviors, such as perching and dust bathing, as well as having more private space for each chicken to lay their eggs. Hens kept in Enriched cages are significantly happier than battery hens, as they have much more space to move around and interact with their fellow residents and as we always say, unhappy chickens don’t lay eggs.

Eggs from Free Range hens on the other hand come from hens that are kept in a spacious, unconfined area, with limitations on the amount of birds per square metre. Free Range is another great way for the hens to live, allowing them to enjoy the most natural conditions we can possibly give them.

In short, all of our hens are very well looked after and the welfare of our hens is one of our highest priority. If hens are not well looked after they start laying poor quality eggs and the quality of our eggs is a testament to how happy and well treat our fantastic chickens are. If you don’t believe us, give us a call or drop us an email. Try the eggs yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
